In many parts of the world, pregnant and postnatal women are massaged regularly to promote a feeling of well being. Massage is a drug free, non-invasive, therapy that can be used throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.

Specific benefits of massage in labour:
• labours can be shorter
• helps reduce pain by stimulating the body's natural painkillers, endorphins
• may reduce anxiety and agitation
• reduces the incidence of postnatal depression
• empowerment of labouring women and their partner

During pregnancy massage should only be used on healthy women, with no pregnancy or medical problems, and with their doctor's consent. For safety reasons no firm pressure is used during pregnancy massage.

A specialist supportive cushion is used for pregnancy massage, allowing mothers to lie face down, comfortably and safely up to delivery, and post natally.

Lorena provides tuition in childbirth massage techniques in the privacy of your own home.
